SUMMARY OF NOTES OF Jan 13th, 2008

 

I. THINGS WE LIKE

     A. Congregational Development

          1. Learning group on Mary

          2. Diversity of congregation, along with a wider participation in Kwanzaa celebration

          3. Welcoming of new and returning congregation

     B. Worship

          1. Music, singing, and having the lyrics in the bulletin

          2. Banners

          3. Entire worship service in the bulletin every week

          4. Changes in the worship service, including

               a. More silence, and

               b. congregational Prayers of the Peopel

     C. Mission

          1. Soup kitchen changes to pantry

          2. Saturday outreach

          3. Presence of interns

 

II. WISHES

     A. Congregational Development

          1. Information sharing

              a. Newsletter

              b. Bulletin boards

              c. Updated directory of congregations

          2. Coffee hour

              a. Meet & Mix functions at coffee hour

              b. Earl there more to help with this

              c. Lock-up for coffee hour supplies

          3. Education

              a. More training for readers

              b. Program on the Ethiopian Church

              c. Regular Bible study program

              d. More learning for kids

          4. Young Adult group

          5. General

              a. More follow-up and more intentionality to our welcome

              b. Visual representation of diversity - display of Star of David and of Crescent

              c. Birthday celebrations?

     B. Worship

          1. Periods of silence

              a. more of them

              b. be mindful of their importance so they don't start to shrink

          2. Music: encourage more congregation singing

          3. More congregational participation

              a. saying of psalms

              b. prayers of the people

              c. ask choir to be mindful that their responses to prayer create balance with congregation

     C. Administration and facilities

          1. Administration

               a. regular Vestry meetings

               b. more communication from administrative office as to processes and procedures

               c. more follow through in general

               d. more congregational participation in affairs of church

          2. Facilities

               a. where are we going on our buildings? -- Capital campaign?

               b. wheelchair elevator?

               c. new hymnals and prayer books

               d. pew racks

     D. Mission

          1. Saturday outreach ministry needs to be more regularized, create a schedule of volunteers

          2. Expand outreach ministry to include a place where people can live in community - homeless and those who want to help meet their needs
